National Dragster All-Star Team Person of the Year, Fan Favorite: John Force
There is only one John Force, and the 16-time 91°µÍø Funny Car world champion is beloved like few others in our sport. When he was struck down by a season-ending crash in Virginia in June, the drag racing world waited on pins and needles for updates on his evolving condition.
At the events following his accident, fans turned out in large numbers to autograph get-well banners and send their best wishes to the sport’s GOAT, who made a miraculous partial recovery from his devastating injuries, so much so that he was able to return to the track at season’s end in Las Vegas and Pomona to root for his teams and receive the well-wishes of his legion of fans.
For everything that Force has meant to the sport and for his courageousness this season, the staff of the National Dragster All-Star Team has named John Force as its Person of the Year.
Additionally, as a testament to his popularity despite the crash — and maybe in part because of it — Force also was voted the Fan Favorite for the second straight year in the National Dragster All-Star team.
Force finished just ahead of Top Fuel newcomer Ida Zetterström and world champion Antron Brown in the fan balloting in this category.
Force was not able to be at the PRI Show to accept his awards, which were received on stage by his daughter, Brittany, but did send along this acceptance video.
