

Cowie, Gordon lead Lucas Oil Series winners at NHRA 4-Wide Nationals

In addition to the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals, 10 drivers claimed Lucas Oil Series wins at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Reigning world champion Shawn Cowie ran the table in Las Vegas when he qualified No. 1 and won the Top Alcohol Dragster title. Cowie defeated Matt Cummings, Mitch Meyers, and Joey Sevrance in the final quad with a 5.271.
Shortly after being introduced as a future Top Fuel driver for Ron Capps Motorsports, Maddi Gordon won her second Top Alcohol Funny Car national event with a final round performance that included a 5.523 to beat Brian Hough, Ray Martin, and Annie Whiteley.
Taylor Chomiski successfully defended his Las Vegas Comp title from last fall and did so on a single run after Cody Lane was unable to get his car fired during a semifinal bye run.
Chad Guilford, the 1992 Stock world champ, fulfilled a longtime quest when he captured his first national event victory. Guilford won the Super Stock title after five-time champ Justin Lamb fouled by .005-second.
Scott Burton claimed his fifth career win and third in Las Vegas when opponent David McGaugh fouled in the Stock ´Ú¾±²Ô²¹±ô.Ìý
Kris Whitfield survived a tough final round battle with recent Spring Fling Million winner Cooper Chun to claim the Super Comp title. Both drivers were nearly perfect at the start, and Whitfield won with a 9.055 after Chun broke out with a 9.036 on the 9.05 index.
Ken Mostowich won his sixth NHRA title in Super Gas, and half of them have come in Las Vegas. Mostowich won the final with a 10.060 to stop Mark Philbrick’s breakout 10.034.
 Larry Paden made the long trip to Las Vegas from Pennsylvania pay off with a victory in Super Street. Paden was nearly perfect off the starting line and ran 11.093 to beat Nick Pressimone’s 11.109.
Steve Will claimed his first win since the 2018 Winternationals in Right Trailers Top Dragster. Will got a single run in the final when opponent John Richardson was unable to fire his car but would have been tough to beat regardless with a 6.125 on his 6.12 dial.
Bryan Warr scored for the third time in Right Trailers Top Sportsman after beating veteran Ed Olpin in the final round. Warr ran right on his 6.82 dial after Olpin broke out by .012-second.
