Hertzig/Akers Motorsports has retained NHRA nitro driver Cameron Ferré, to pilot the “Johnnys On Thin Ice” AA/FC for the 2024 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage and Legends of Nitro Racing Series.

Ferré has spent the last few years racing in the NHRA Top Fuel dragster ranks but is pleased to get back into a Funny Car for 2024.

“This is going to be awesome. Rick has been trying to get me behind the wheel of one of his cars for years and it just hasn’t worked out logistically until now, and I think it’s perfect timing” said Ferré. “I feel this will be a great move for me to get back into a race-winning-caliber car and run for a championship. Not to mention keep me out on track while I work on getting back to top fuel. This will for sure keep my finger on the nitro pulse and allow me to stay as relevant as I can. And heck, who doesn’t love driving Funny Cars! I can’t thank Rick, John, and Roxie enough, and I’m ready to get to work!”

The team is gearing up for a full schedule of events starting with the Good Vibrations March Meet and plans to attend the full Hot Rod Heritage and Legends of Nitro series events. The funny car will campaign as a team car with Nostalgia Top Fuel standout Bryan Hall, for a double dose of nitro at each event allowing for additional resources for each car.

Veteran tuner Wally Giavia will serve as crew chief.

“I have been around Rick for years and I am looking forward to being back racing with him and Cameron. I think we are assembling something great,” said Giavia.

Hertzig/Akers Motorsports had success in 2023 with a win at the famous In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip and they are looking to continue that in the coming season.

“I love Nitro Funny Cars, plain and simple, and I want to keep doing this for as long as I can and with the help of the Hertzig family, we are able to make this happen,” said Akers. “I’m excited all around. All the new things coming into 24’ is shaping it up to be a huge one. Wally as the tuner, Cam as the driver, and John and Roxie as partners is a recipe for success, plain and simple. I can’t wait to go testing.”

Hertzig/Akers Motorsports will be announcing additional plans and partners in the coming months.
