Ashley, Torrence, Hagan, Capps, Hight, and Glenn clinch Countdown berths in Topeka
Six more drivers locked up their official spots in the 2023 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship as the result of racing at the Menards NHRA Nationals presented by PetArmor in Topeka.
Top Fuel points leader Justin Ashley and four-time world champion Steve Torrence assured their presence in the six-race payoffs that start in mid-September in Reading, while a trio of three-time Funny Car world champs — Matt Hagan, Ron Capps, and Robert Hight — also locked themselves into the final title run.
Dallas Glenn, the Pro Stock points leader since the NHRA Winternationals, became the first driver in his class to officially lock down an invitation.
The six new participants join season-long Pro Stock Motorcycle points leader Gaige Herrera, who clenched his spot three races ago in Seattle.
The six-race Countdown to the Championship, which starts Sept. 14-17 at the Pep Boys NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway, is open to the top 10 finishers in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle as well as any participant who makes the minimum required number of qualifying runs at all regular-season races for their class.
