Fricke, Bellemeur lead Sportsman winners in NHRA Nevada Nationals action
Jackie Fricke may hail from the East Coast, but she’s been incredibly successful out west, claiming four of her nine career wins west of the Mississippi including Top Alcohol Dragster in Las Vegas, defeating West Coast stalwart Shawn Cowie in the final round. [video]
After coming up just short of winning their fourth Top Alcohol Funny Car world championship, Sean Bellemeur and the Bartone-Boggs-Bellemeur “Killer Bs” team got some solace with their second win of the season, capping it with a final-round victory over Jim Whiteley, 5.44 to 5.45. It’s Bellemeur’s sixth career win at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. [video]
Travis Gusso completed a Las Vegas sweep, backing up his victory at the spring event with another Comp crown in the fall. This time, Gusso wheeled his F/SM '10 Cobalt to an easy final-round victory when 10-time tour winner Glen Treadwell had trouble getting off the starting line in his dragster. [video]
Shortly after wrapping up the Stock national championship, Kyle Rizzoli put the icing on the cake with a win in Super Stock. Rizzoli drove the Gaynor family’s Cobalt to a double-breakout win over Brad Burton in the final. The news wasn’t all bad for Burton, who took over the championship lead in Super Stock. [video]
Dwayne Scheitlin, the 2021 Denver champ, added a second title to his resume when he wheeled his vintage ’70 Challenger past Leo Glasbrenner in the Stock final. Scheitlin finished the job with a .012 light and a 10.365 against his 10.30 dial. [video]
Five years after his breakthrough win at the 2018 91 Finals, Chad Webber was back in the Super Comp winner’s circle after a dead-on 9.050 in the final round to defeat James Cowie, who clocked a close 9.057. [video]
Val Torres Sr. won the NHRA Nevada Nationals for the second time and collected his ninth overall NHRA Wally when he defeated Bill Dennis in the Super Gas final, 10.07 to a breakout 10.04 on the 10.05 altitude-adjusted index. Torres previously won the event in 2017. [video]
After kicking off the season with a win in Gainesville, Doug Crumlich scored again in Right Trailers Top Sportsman when he defeated Mike Morehead in the Las Vegas final. Crumlich was nearly perfect off the starting line and drove to a 6.682 on his 6.61 dial for the win. Both Morehead and Crumlich are ranked in the Top 5. [video]
