Treadwell, Caheely, and Nagel lead winners list at Orlando Speed World Dragway
The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series kicked off its first divisional event of season in the southeast division, hitting Orlando Speed World Dragway this past weekend. Drivers from all over the southeast visited the strip to battle head-to-head in the Pro Winter Warmup. Winners were crowned in the Lucas Oil Series classes as well as STOTTS FORD Top Sportsman and Hickory Enclosed Trailers Top Dragster.
Fans were treated to an all Florida final round in Comp Eliminator. Jenny Treadwell of Mount Plymouth, and Steve Schumacher of Jacksonville went toe-to-toe. ÌýTreadwell, the reigning Division 2 champion opened up her title defense successfully, making a victory pass of 8.224 seconds, 141.62 mph as Schumacher finished at 8.046 seconds, 166.52 mph.Ìý
After five tedious rounds, Terry Nagel, Breckinridge, Mich., and Jeff Adkinson, Damascus, Ga., took the starting line in the Stock Eliminator final round. Nagel returns to Michigan with the Stock Eliminator Wally trophies after Adkinson broke out. Nagel 10.943 seconds, 114.61 mph def. Adkinson, 10.168, 119.24 8.898, 173.49.
Rusty Cook, Cynthiana, Ky., almost doubled up. Cook had a smooth victory pass in the Super Gas final round, as Craig Porter, Silver Spring, Md., fouled at the line. But Cook fell short to John Labbous, White House, Tenn., in the Super Comp finale. Labbous finished at 8.932, 164.81. Cook 8.898, 173.49.
In an all North Carolina Top Sportsman final round presented by STOTTS FORD Carts, Sandy Wilkins of Mount Ulla, outlasted Derrick Brown, Winston Salem. Wilkins grabbed the victory running 6.643, 200.98. Wilkins, the reigning Top Sportsman Divisional champion got a great start to his title defense. ÌýLes Feist, Clearwater, Minn., made a smooth victory pass of 6.129, 228.00 in the Top Dragster presented by Hickory Enclosed Trailers final round as Steve Cohen, Trilby, Fla., fouled at the line.
Other drivers visiting the winner’s circle were; Tyler Caheely, Rock Springs, Ga., in Super Stock; Jonathan Anderson, Griffin, Ga., in Super Street; and Mike Janis, Lancaster, N.Y., in Pro Mod.Ìý
In addition the Summit Jr Drag Racing League was in competition. Junior drivers visiting the winner’s circle were Gage Burch, Palmetto, Fla., 13-17 year olds; Katie Craft, Melbourne, Fla., 10-12 year olds; and Dylan MacNicol, North Port, Fla., 6-9 year olds.

This was the first of seven events in the NHRA Southeast Division. Racers will head to Gainesville Raceway March 10-12 Ìýnext, one week before the NHRA Gatornationals.

The NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series opens its 2017 season at Orlando Speed World Dragway for the first of seven events in the NHRA Southeast Division. This Friday through Sunday, February 24-26, 2017, drivers will be racing to earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000.Ìý
Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. A Highlight of the event will be the 250 mph RPM Pro Mod class, in addition to the division’s Stott’s Ford Top Sportsman Series and Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales Top Dragster Series. Special ticket pricing for the multiple days is as follows; 2-Day Pass $40, 3-Day Pass $45, 4-day Pass $50. ÌýChildren 10 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.Ìý
