Westerfield, Hilton, Lee, Kouerinis victorious at 53rd Nightfire Nationals

Firebird Raceway played host to the 53rd edition of the Nightfire Nationals presented by Bi-Mart, a key stop in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series where nitro victories went to Shane Westerfield and Tyler Hilton.

Firebird Raceway played host to the 53rd edition of the Nightfire Nationals presented by Bi-Mart, a key stop in the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series.

Winning an unprecedented fifth consecutive Nightfire title for Austin & O’Brien, Shane Westerfield was victorious in his debut appearance at Firebird. The “Northwest Hitter” team ran 5.69 at 256.84 to stop Nathan Sitko who finished at 5.86, 237.34 in the 16-car AA/Funny Car field.

In AA/Fuel Dragster, Tyler Hilton earned his second consecutive win in Idaho, 5.79, 253.18 to hold off Bret Williamson who ran 6.01, 247.07.

Cory Lee drove the “Sheepherder” AA/Fuel Altered to his first Firebird victory as a driver when Jason Pettit could not answer the call in the final (Cory shutoff early in the final). Pro Modified was collected by Andy Kouerinis at 5.90, 243.19 to stop Williamson who ran 6.13, 235.72.

The NHRA.tv Challenge three-night Bracketeer Series officially crowned five overall champions. NHRA Wally statues were awarded to: Bracketeer Champ-Chance Parker, Pro-Brandon Umberger, Heavy-Shawn Nyquist, Bike/Sled-Mike Pinkston and Lucas Oil Top Fire-Duston Wurtz. Additionally, Kenneth Scheller was victorious in the Pro Comp division.
